Spend a beautiful summer's day on the mountain top of the Gerlitzen

Summer holidays in Austria are associated with Alpine huts, hiking and fantastic views. The Gerlitzen in Carinthia offers you all of this. And the best thing? The mountain is only around 20 minutes by car from the EuroParcs Ossiacher See holiday park.

We've put together a few ideas for what you can do on a summer excursion to the Gerlitzen. Read them and get inspired!

1. Relax on the mountain top

2. Hike and discover summer attractions

3. Visit the kids paradise ‘Erlebnisarena Kanzelhöhe’

Relax on the mountain top

If you simply want to relax on the mountain top of the Gerlitzen and enjoy a tasty meal, we recommend a visit to the Gipfelhaus.

Here you have a wonderful panoramic view from the terrace while you savour the Carinthian cuisine or perhaps enjoy a refreshing drink.

If you want to walk around a bit before you eat something, you can take a short walk to the Alpengasthof Pacheiner.

There is also a sun terrace with a panoramic view here, but in addition to regional dishes, Italian wood-fired pizzas are also on the menu. There is also a playground with a slide and swings next to the restaurant.

Alternatively, you can also have a small picnic on the mountain top. Simply find a nice spot, spread out your blanket and enjoy the sandwiches and snacks you've brought with you while you take in the surroundings.

With a bit of luck, you might even spot a few paragliders taking off from the Gerlitzen.

Hike and discover summer attractions

Are you a fan of hiking and enjoy exploring? Two hiking routes start at the mountain top of the Gerlitzen, which you can hike within 1.5 hours.

The Traumbogen - Höhenrundweg (4.4 km) leads around the mountain top. Along the way, you can discover various works of art and admire the views on all sides of the mountain.

In between, take a look through the adventure telescope and see the Noreia sky ladder.
Alternatively, you can follow the IV Bergeralm circular trail (4.9 km). This leads from the mountain top station in an easterly direction.

Along the way, you can see the rock lake, the rock chapel and the 'greeting to Tibet'. Take a break in between at the Bergeralm Mountain Café to eat something and enjoy the sun on the terrace.

Afterwards, check out the Feuerberg Alpine Park, which includes an adventure playground, a low ropes course and a ‘Path of Philosophers’.

The circular route then leads back to the mountain top station.

Visit the kids paradise ‘Erlebnisarena Kanzelhöhe’

If you are travelling with smaller children with whom you are not yet able to go on hiking tours, the Kanzelhöhe adventure arena is a good destination for you.

The adventure arena is not located on the mountain top, but at the middle station between the Kanzelbahn and the Gipfelbahn.

An adventure playground with a wooden ball track, a bungee trampoline, a forest high ropes course, a tube slide and much more awaits you and your children here.

Grab a tyre and slide down the slide, play a round of mini-golf together or watch your children whizz around on the mini electric piste racers.

You certainly won't get bored in the adventure arena and time will fly by!
