You've found it
During winter in the Netherlands, temperatures can sometimes drop below freezing. On those bleak days, skating fever always rears its head. Have you got it too? Then get your skates out of the grease!
Should the freezing cold really set in, you might wonder what the best places are for skating. Many of our holiday parks are close to lakes, ponds or rivers that are great candidates for skating on natural ice. Of course, we cannot promise anything about the ice, but we can already share the best spots with you.
If you love skating and are looking for the best places for an unforgettable skating adventure, the Netherlands and Austria are the right places for you. Here you will find not only cultural diversity, but also breathtaking natural landscapes that turn into perfect skating rinks in winter.
In the Netherlands, there are many lakes, ponds and rivers that turn into beautiful skating rinks in winter. Our holiday parks are often located near these natural ice rinks and therefore offer ideal conditions for a real ice-skating experience on natural ice. The picturesque surroundings and fresh air make skating an unforgettable winter experience.
If the weather is not cold enough yet, there is an impressive selection of first-class ice rinks near our holiday parks. These offer not only perfectly maintained ice rinks, but also a cosy atmosphere for skating with family and friends.
One of the most beautiful ice rinks in the Netherlands is open from mid-December to mid-January on the market square in Gouda. If you are staying at a holiday park in South-Holland in winter, bring your skates and enjoy the magic of winter.
You can also find it in the centre of Amsterdam on Rembrandtplein. Every year from mid-November to mid-January, there is a real winter wonderland with a beautiful ice rink. Make a few laps and enjoy Amsterdam's charming cityscape. You can reach the city from almost all holiday parks in North-Holland in just a few minutes by car.
If you are on holiday at a holiday park in Limburg in winter, a large ice rink awaits you in the middle of Maastricht on the famous Vrijthof square. Here you can skate in historic surroundings. Maastricht can be reached in no time from all holiday parks in Limburg.
In winter, the market square in the centre of Eindhoven is transformed into a true winter paradise with a beautiful ice rink. Stay at a holiday park in Brabant, taste the winter atmosphere and go ice skating.
You can do some royal ice skating in Apeldoorn around Paleis het Loo. From early December to early January, the castle is shrouded in winter atmosphere and offers plenty of opportunities for young and old to experience the beautiful ice rink. Our holiday parks in Gelderland are the perfect base for a visit to the castle.
In Austria, the majestic Alps offer a unique backdrop for ice skating. Numerous natural ice rinks at higher altitudes make it possible not only to skate a lap on ice, but also to experience the pristine beauty of Alpine nature.
Apart from the natural ice rinks, Austrian cities also offer unique skating opportunities. Skaters can turn their laps at the large ice rink in Steindorf am Ossiacher See or at Villach town hall.
The ice rink in front of Villach town hall in the city centre is also highly recommended, especially in the evening when the atmospheric lighting on the ice creates a magical atmosphere. You can also rent skates there for a reasonable price.
By the way: all ice rinks can be reached in no time from our holiday parks in Carinthia. So you can easily go ice skating during your winter holiday.
