King's Day, known as Koningsdag in the Netherlands, is one of the country's biggest celebrations, as it marks the birthday of Dutch King Willem-Alexander on 27 April. As 27 April 2025 falls on a Sunday, the King's Day 2025 will be celebrated on Saturday 26 April.
On this public holiday, there are music and dance events, colourful flea markets, festivals and much more all over the country! Of course, the right outfit is a must on this special day: Grab an orange outfit and celebrate King's Day in Holland!
Every year, King's Day is celebrated in a different city. In 2023 it was in Rotterdam and in 2024 in Emmen. This cosy city is located in the Dutch province of Drenthe and is definitely worth a visit!
The two holiday parks EuroParcs Ruinen and EuroParcs Reestervallei are only a few minutes away from the city and are the perfect starting point for a visit to Emmen.
In addition to the official celebrations, King's Day can be celebrated in every town and village, as the whole country is in holiday fever. In particular, there are many traditional activities that are organised in the Netherlands on King's Day.
A classic example is the many flea and clothing markets that can be visited everywhere. Another King's Day tradition: eating orange cake! You can try this delicacy in many cafés before continuing the festivities.
Would you rather celebrate King's Day with your friends? Then the 538th Koningsdag festival is well worth a visit. The famous festival takes place on the Chasséveld in Breda and this year 40,000 visitors are expected! As every year, the line-up is a big surprise.
Previous years have seen international stars such as Dua Lipa, La Fuente and Rita Ora. Still looking for accommodation? Book a weekend at EuroParcs Kaatsheuvel, just half an hour from the festival in Breda!
