The pleasant city of Meppel is located exactly on the border between the Dutch provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe. With its location on the Meppelerdiep and between the Zuiderzee and the canals of Drenthe, Meppel was an important trading city. Nature is also not far away with Weerribben Wieden National Park to the west of the city. A visit to this versatile city is therefore highly recommended during your stay at one of our nearby holiday parks.
The historical city center of Meppel has surprisingly much to offer for a fun day trip. Characteristic of Meppel is that it reminds a lot of Amsterdam with its Heerengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. You can also enjoy excellent shopping, culinary delights and you can stroll through the old streets. The fact that Meppel was originally a pleasant farming community and grew into an important trading city can still be clearly seen today in its extraordinary hospitality, historic buildings and warehouses. During the
summer days, the Donderdag Meppeldagen take place on six Thursdays, where festivals, flea markets and canal concerts take place. You can swim and climb with the kids at Bad Hesselingen and visit Indonesian animals in the Taman Indonesia Zoo.
The 'happy' Meppel is not called that way for no reason. There is a lot of nature in and around the city, including the beautiful Wilhelmina Park. During Picknick in the Park, on the last Sunday of the summer holidays, the whole city enjoys the greatest picnic of the year. But also just outside the city you will find reed lands, lakes and swamp forests in the
extraordinary landscape of the Weerribben-Wieden Nature Park. In addition, the beautiful Reestdal with its estates, fields, heath and forests is not far from Meppel.
