Weekend away Amsterdam

What we liked best about vacation park EuroParcs Poort van Amsterdam was the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure. The park is located in a beautiful nature reserve by the water, in an archetypal Dutch setting. We were able to unwind here. But at some point we would also like to do something fun and go out and about. The website mentioned that the park is near Marken and Volendam, but also just a half-hour drive from Amsterdam. Wonderful right?

On vacation in North Holland

When we arrived at the vacation park, we really felt like we were driving into a North Holland village. All the vacation homes were built in one of those typical architectural styles with that dark green wood. They looked exactly like the cottages you see in pictures of the Zaanse Schans or Volendam. This made us feel immediately immersed in the local culture.

Holiday home with sauna

At reception, we were warmly welcomed and given the key and an information booklet. After clear instructions from the receptionist, it was not difficult to find our cottage. At our holiday home, we could park the car in our own parking space. Like our friends, we stayed in a Munt 4 with sauna. Of course, we had to explore all the rooms and left our luggage to walk around the park.

Rent e-chopper

After a relaxing evening in the sauna and then sitting rosy on the sofa with a glass of wine, we woke up rested. My friend went to get fresh rolls and over breakfast we made the plan to rent an e-chopper. We thought this was a super fun way to explore the area. With the wind in our hair, we rode through the meadows, along country roads and past beautiful farms. On the way, we stopped in the charming town of Monnickendam for a delicious lunch. If you like fish, it is definitely a must try ordering it at a local restaurant here.

Relax

When we got back to the park, it was time to relax. We laid down our towels on the little beach and enjoyed the soothing sound of the waves and the feel of sand under our feet. We were lucky with the weather. The sun was shining and the occasional cloud passed by. At the end of the afternoon, we walked back to our vacation rental. By the way, this one was on the water and had its own deck with a garden set. Really a lovely place to enjoy after a day out.

NDSM wharf

The next day we went to the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam. This was also really a highlight of our weekend away. This bustling location is the ideal place for creatives and socialites. There was art and design everywhere we looked and a vibrant energy. The industrial atmosphere really gave this place a unique character. While we were here, we checked out creative spaces, admired art and had a lovely time sitting in one of the cafes.

So where on vacation?

Our weekend away at vacation park EuroParcs Poort van Amsterdam is one we won't soon forget. We felt tremendously recharged after a weekend here. The vacation home was well maintained and was in a beautiful location. Perhaps the furnishings were not entirely our taste, but that didn't make the house any less comfortable! We especially liked that the vacation park is in the middle of nature, but also close to Amsterdam. In retrospect, we might have even rented an electric bike for our day trip to Amsterdam. But even if you don't necessarily want to seek out the crowds, the vacation park is a great choice. There is an indoor pool, wellness, a restaurant and an indoor playground. In short: whoever you go with and whatever you want to do, vacation park EuroParcs Poort van Amsterdam is a must for a relaxing weekend away.
